Abstract
Core level spectra of metal oxides often exhibit a pronounced fine structure which is related to the physical and chemical properties of the oxide. For the case of the Ce 4s and 5s levels of CeO2(1Â 1Â 1) the fine structure is calculated with a parameter-free ab initio theoretical approach.
