Abstract
α-Nitroxy-substituted alkyl radicals, >R-ONO2, are shown to be unstable, dissociating without barrier to the carbonyl compound >RO and NO2. This decomposition occurs sequentially after the formation of these radicals, e.g. in β-nitroxy-alkoxy radical decomposition.
