Abstract
The nitric oxide dimer has a weak N-N bond because of a severe near-degeneracy involving these two orbitals formed by bonding (denoted as Ï) and anti-bonding (Ïâ) combinations of Ïâ orbitals of two NO fragments. Phasing is colored in green and dark amber.
