Abstract
Schematic picture of the mechanism of wave packet contraction in the repulsive potential V(R). The length of arrows indicates the magnitude of the momenta which are smallest at the front of the wave packet. When the high-momentum components at the rear of the wave packet 'catch up' with the low momentum components, the width goes through a minimum.
