Abstract
Fe, Fe3C, and NdC2 carbon-encapsulated magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by using RF plasma technique. These core-shell nanostructures have a diameter between 20 and 50Â nm. The protective carbon coatings were built from several to tens of well-crystallized graphene layers. The obtained nanostructures exhibit OL with the best limiting threshold of 5.4Â J/cm2. It was revealed that the observed optical limiting can be attributed mainly to the amorphous carbon nanoparticles.
