Abstract
A set of harmonic potential surfaces for the ground, n-Ïâ, and Ï-Ïâ states of 9H-adenine have been calculated and used to analyze experimental R2PI and resonance fluorescence spectra and excited state lifetimes of adenine. A plausible assignment has been proposed taking into account a strong coupling between these electronic states.
