Abstract
Subpicosecond transient absorption spectroscopy of the R52Q mutant of PYP reveals a photoinduced mechanism similar to that of PYP with slower kinetics. A key role of the charged Arg52 on the earliest steps of PYP photocycle is discarded. The role of the loosening of the protein nanospace is emphasized.
