Abstract
First principles electronic structure studies have found that Zn12O12 cages are particularly stable units. When doped with a single Co or Fe atom, the doped units carry a magnetic moment of 3 and 4 μB, respectively. Doping with two Co sites leads to ferromagnetically coupling due to direct exchange interaction.
