Reduction of tetranitromethane by electronically excited aromatics in acetonitrile: Spectra and molar absorption coefficients of radical cations of anthracene, phenanthrene and pyrene

The spectra and molar absorption coefficients of the radical cations of anthracene, phenanthrene and pyrene (in acetonitrile at room temperature) have been recorded by photoinitiated reduction of tetranitromethane; the spectra of C(NO2)3-, the resulting anion, are shown on the right (in two solvents).
