Abstract
The upconversion rate in Nd-doped Ta2O5 waveguides has been measured with the help of a rate-equation analysis for modulated cw excitation. The effect of upconversion on the laser performance has been theoretically estimated using the parameters obtained for the Nd-doped Ta2O5 waveguide lasers
