Abstract
The rate coefficient of 2-hydroxy-2-propyl radical addition to maleic and fumaric acids strongly depends on the protonation state. For fumaric acid it decreases in the order: protonated > monoanion > dianion. For maleic acid the monoanion form has the highest rate coefficient.
