Abstract
⺠Progressive methylolation of the melamine molecule is the first step in melamine resins production. ⺠The reaction cascade was examined using ab initio calculations. ⺠Products with more formaldehyde-substituted amino groups are preferentially formed. ⺠Addition of melamine on formaldehyde involves two water molecules.
