Abstract
⺠NXâ¯N interactions are studied in dimers and trimers of formamidine (X = H) and halogenated analogues (X = halogen). ⺠Trimerization strengthens the halogen bonds, but weakens the hydrogen bonds. ⺠NHâ¯N interactions are stronger than NClâ¯N and NBrâ¯N interactions. ⺠For dimers, NIâ¯N interactions are as strong as NHâ¯N interactions. ⺠For trimers, NIâ¯N interactions are the strongest, with symmetric Nâ¯Iâ¯N interactions.
