Abstract
The incorporation of Bi3+ and Li+ as co-dopants in Eu3+-doped aluminum oxide films deposited by the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique and its effect on the luminescence characteristics of this material are described. Both Bi3+ and Li+ do not introduce new luminescence features but affect the luminescence intensity of the Eu3+ related emission spectra as well as the excitation spectra. The introduction of Bi3+ generates localized states in the aluminum oxide host that result in a quenching of the luminescence intensity, while Li+ and Bi3+ co-doping increase the luminescence intensity of these films.
