Abstract
Broad gain of 88Â nm from 1511 to 1599Â nm upon pumping of an Er/Al-doped fiber amplifier with a white LED was demonstrated. The multiple absorption bands located in visible wavelength of Er3+ ions were simultaneously excited with the white LED. Optical gains of 13Â dB and 12Â dB, respectively, were obtained in the Er/Al-doped fiber and the Er-doped fiber. The 3Â dB gain bandwidth of the Er/Al-doped fiber amplifier was 46Â nm broader than that of the Er-doped fiber amplifier
