Abstract
► For the first time, luminescence characteristics of Lu2SiO5:Bi are reported. ► Ultraviolet emission arises from Bi3+ ions located in Lu1 and Lu2 lattice sites. ► Visible emission is ascribed to Bi3+-related localized excitons. ► Relaxed excited states parameters of Bi3+-related centers are determined. ► Bi3+-doped oxyorthosilicates are found to be perspective scintillation materials.
