Abstract
⺠Oleate-capped hydrophobic monodisperse ultrasmall BaGdF5 nanocrystals of mean 18 nm were synthesized. ⺠BaGdF5 nanocrystals can be treated with diluted hydrochloric acid to be water-soluble. ⺠BaGdF5 nanocrystals have photoluminescent and paramagnetic bifunction. ⺠Magnetic mass susceptibility of BaGd0.798Yb0.2Tm0.002F5 nanocrystals reaches 6.11Ã10â5 emu gâ1 Oeâ1. ⺠Tuned intense upconversion can be obtained in Ln3+ (Ln=Er, Tm and Yb) doped BaGdF5 nanocrystals.
