Abstract
▶ Energy transfer between two different rare earth ions in a SiO2 matrix. ▶ This leads to the enhanced luminescence of one centre at an expense of quenching the other. ▶ Understanding the energy transfer with different combination of rare earth ions can lead to tailor made phosphors with desired emission characteristics.
