Abstract
⺠CsCdCl3 consists of face-shared and corner-shared CdCl6 octahedrons. ⺠Two symmetrically different positions for Cd ion are available: namely C3v and D3d. ⺠An electronic energy level diagram is constructed. ⺠An effective up-conversion of RE ions for visible region could not work in CsCdCl3.
