Abstract
We presented the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu2+ in CaAl2Si2O8 host. The Ce3+-doped CaAl2Si2O8 phosphor had a strong emission band at 378Â nm under the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light. This emission spectrum of Ce3+ well overlapped with the excitation spectrum of Eu2+ under the UV illumination. As a result, the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu2+ in CaAl2Si2O8 matrix was observed under VUV excitation, which resulted in a significant enhancement of the emission peak intensity at 446Â nm. More details about the luminescent properties were presented.
