Abstract
We have studied the Freedericksz transition in antiferroelectric liquid crystals (AFLCs) utilizing the Landau-Ginzburg (LG) equation. We discussed low frequency in-phase mode and high frequency anti-phase mode in the region of Freedericksz transition. Freedericksz transition has taken an effective role for a finite dimensional material. Dielectric characteristics have been investigated in detail both in in-phase and anti-phase motions by considering the Freedericksz transition. We theoretically noticed the non-uniform rotations of azimuthal angles of molecules between two adjacent layers of AFLCs due to the application of an external field higher than the threshold voltage.
