Abstract
⺠The sound velocity in diluted aqueous solutions with the solutes saccharose, ethanol and CO2 was measured. ⺠The adiabatic compressibility was determined from the measured sound velocity and calculated values of the density. ⺠All dissolved substances induce an increase of the sound velocity as well as a decrease of the compressibility. ⺠Various hydration active groups in the molecules lead to different values of the compressibility decrease. ⺠The overall decrease of the compressibility can be determined by adding the contributions of the single solutes.
