Abstract
⺠A molecular ion channel is proposed that is constructed of crown ether rings. ⺠The channel connects two aqueous electrolyte layers across a bilayer membrane. ⺠The channel possesses a large negative axial electrostatic potential. ⺠Molecular dynamics shows cations but not anions enter the channel. ⺠Cations encounter an energy barrier as they enter the channel.
