Abstract
Limiting conductances of 1:1 type strong electrolytes (mainly alkali metal halides, perchlorates and tetraalkylammonium halides) in the 2-alkoxyethanol-water-rich mixtures, were reexamined in the framework of the universal curves of limiting conductances and the excess Walden product introduced by the author. These new concepts in the analysis of conductance data allow to estimate values of limiting conductances of electrolytes or ions, to give an indication about the quality of the performed conductivity measurements and the kind of interactions expected in the solution. The universal curves of conductances were established in the 2-methoxyethanol, 2-ethoxyethanol and 2-buthoxyethanol-water mixtures. In all mixtures with alcohols, it was observed that in the water-rich concentration regions the limiting conductances of electrolytes are to a great extent independent of the alcohol and distinction between them is noticeable only in the alcohol-rich regions. It was demonstrated that behaviour of electrolytes in the 2-alkoxyethanol-water-rich mixtures is similar to that found in the alkanol-water-rich mixtures.
