Abstract
Using a rigorous split of the realistic intermolecular potentials into short-range reference and perturbation parts, one can obtain the Helmholtz free energy that is made up of several terms, each originating from a different type of interaction. Focusing on three typical anomalies, the hierarchical equations of state are examined with respect to these anomalies and an attempt is made to link their occurrence to particular types of interactions.
