Abstract
Excess molar volumes, VE, their temperature derivative, (∂VE/∂T), and deviation in isentropic compressibilities, Δks of liquid mixtures of benzene with 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane have been calculated using the experimentally measured densities, ρ and ultrasonic speeds, u of the pure liquids and those of their mixtures over the whole composition range and at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15, 313.15 and 318.15 K. Thermal expansion coefficient, α, excess thermal expansion coefficient, αE partial molar volumes at infinite dilution, V¯10, V¯20 and partial molar isentropic compressibilities at infinite dilution, K¯10 and K¯20 have also been calculated. All properties have been correlated with standard polynomials against temperature and composition, and the excess/deviation functions have been correlated using Redlich-Kister polynomial. Moreover, (∂VE/∂T) and Δks have also been estimated from Flory's theory and Benson-Kiyohara theory, respectively. Ai coefficients of Redlich-Kister equation were also used to calculate the partial molar volumes. Good approximation has been obtained between the theory and experiment.
