Abstract
Several 2,6-diaryl-4-piperidones were prepared. The configuration and conformation of these piperidones are discussed from the measured values of dipole moments. The influence of substitution on the molecular interactions of these compounds are studied. The results are interpreted in relation to their structure conformation and the charge distribution in groups like N-H and CO. A correlation between the dipole moment values of these compounds with the IR spectral shift and intensities is also attempted.
