Abstract
A functional renormalization group approach is applied to a single quantum particle. This simple setting allows the quantitative study of various schemes which are used to truncate the functional differential equation describing the renormalization flow of the effective average action. We conclude that an expansion into vertex functions truncated at low order is inappropriate for a system with tunneling.
