Abstract
⺠1 nm thick carbon nanomembranes (CNMs) are generated from self-assembled monolayers via electron irradiation. ⺠CNMs are prepared on various substrates and as free-standing, suspended sheets. ⺠We characterize chemical and physical properties of CNMs by complementary techniques. ⺠CNMs are employed for the engineering of complex 2D molecular architectures and applications innanotechnology. ⺠CNMs are converted into graphene upon annealing.
