Abstract
⺠A recent review of the electrochemical promotion of catalysis (EPOC or NEMCA effect) is discussed. ⺠The preparation of electropromoted catalysts is reviewed. ⺠The phenomenology and physicochemical origin of EPOC is surveyed. ⺠The effect of heat and mass transfer limitations on EPOC studies is discussed. ⺠The mechanism of EPOC is discussed in view of surface science techniques.
