Abstract
The survival probability of the Hâ ions colliding with a 0.25Â ML Na covered Cu(111) surface is studied by both theory and experiment. We find that the survival probability is influenced by the projectile direction on surface. The reason is the different bonding between the Na atoms and their Cu neighbors along different surface directions. A stronger bond leads to a larger survival probability.
