Abstract
⺠Exact analytic solution of the response of a free electron metal to a charge outside of the surface. ⺠Derivation of a new surface dielectric function. ⺠We show that quantum mechanics does not give the proper image potential outside of a metal surface. ⺠Quantum mechanics does give the correct dispersion for the surface Plasmon.
