Abstract
⺠Oxidation of Fe(111) is very fast ⺠Forms rough, mainly haematite, film at ambient temperature ⺠Upon annealing above 600 K phase separates to oxide islands and monolayer 6 Ã 6 structure ⺠Results indicate a difficulty with obtaining clean Fe crystal surfaces ⺠A model of structural evolution is presented
