Abstract
⺠Conditions for using tight-binding second moment approximation (SMA) are reviewed. ⺠Revised SMA parameters are determined for Ag, Cu, Au, Ni, Pd, Co and Pt. ⺠Fit to a fixed ratio of experimental over calculated values of surface energies. ⺠Variation of surface energies from one element to the others is correctly reproduced.
