Surface electronic structure of polar NiO(111) films

Abstract

âº We find a new surface state on faceted NiO(111) films using photoelectron spectroscopies and electron energy loss measurements. âº This new surface state is originated from Ni vacancies. âº Annealing or deposition of Ni atoms can reduce these surface defects and result in charge transfer from surface to bulk.
