Abstract
⺠The electronic structure and adsorption geometry of 5-halouracils on Au(111) have been investigated. ⺠The stronger interaction takes place via nitrogen and bromine atoms. ⺠The formation of the chemical state occurs only in water and not under vacuum. ⺠The subtle effects play an important role in the chemistry of the solution-metal interface.
