Abstract
Magnetic moment distributions in Cr and Cr/V films with surface defects like strips and trimers are calculated in the framework of a periodic Anderson model within collinear and noncollinear approaches for (0 0 1), (1 1 0), and (1 1 1) surface orientations. It is shown that all films reveal noticeable magnetic moments at the Cr atoms. The values of Cr moments, as well as the magnetization of the film, depend on the type of defect and the orientation of surface. In most cases the relative orientations of Cr magnetic moments stay collinear. However, noncollinearity is found for the atoms of a Cr trimer, placed at the surface of a nonmagnetic V film with (0 0 1) or (1 1 1) orientation.
