â¢Lorenz-Mie theory can be extended from illuminating plane wave to illuminating arbitrary shaped beams.â¢Lorenz-Mie theory can be extended from illuminated homogeneous particles to illuminated arbitrary shaped particles.â¢The paper then presents a review concerning the scattering of arbitrary shaped beams by arbitrary shaped particles.
Since the development of Lorenz-Mie theory describing the electromagnetic scattering of a plane wave by a homogeneous spherical particle, light scattering theories (and applications) have essentially developed along two streams (i) from plane wave to arbitrary shaped beams and (ii) from homogeneous spherical particles to arbitrary shaped particles. The present paper presents a review devoted to a synthetic and unified view of these two streams.
