Abstract
The pattern equation method (PEM) has been extended to scattering problems of electromagnetic waves from three-dimensional (3D) conducting objects coated with dielectric materials. The algorithm of method for objects of arbitrary geometry is developed. For spheres, from the system of the algebraic equations of the PEM with respect to the expansion coefficients of the scattering pattern into Fourier series, the analytical expressions for these coefficients are obtained. These expressions coincide with corresponding formulas from a theory of Mie series. Numerical results of computation of scattering patterns from arbitrary axially symmetric objects are presented; thus, accuracy and efficiency of the method are shown.
