Abstract
Stark profiles for certain non-blended spectral lines radiating in the visible spectral region from Ar II multiplets were measured at the University of Maryland in a plasma created by the laser heating of a puff of gas at high pressure. The resulting line widths are found to agree within a ±30% experimental precision with previous ±25% measurements obtained at lower densities and temperatures in long-burning arcs, as well as with semi-classical calculations.
