Abstract
Micro-scale shape memory ceramic (ZrO2-based) particles are shown to exhibit highly reproducible superelasticity over more than one hundred cycles, with dissipated energy levels up to 20-40Â MJ/m3 (per cycle). Their cycling evolution and fatigue mechanism has been investigated, and limitations on grain structure for such cycling behaviour are identified.213
