Abstract
The residual stress of oxide scales grown on the Ni-33Al alloys doped with minor Dy and Y as reactive element (RE) was investigated. The doped alloys revealed lower growth rate and less spallation of oxide scales than the undoped alloy. Also, lower residual stresses were measured in the oxide scales on the doped alloys. The flaky oxides formed on the doped alloys were beneficial to stress relaxation. Additionally, RE doping constrained the martensitic transformation of θ-Al2O3 to α-Al2O3, which also contributed to the decreased residual stress in the oxide scale.
