Abstract
Through additional investigations it was found that hardness and fracture toughness were independent on the layer architecture. But an extensive fractographic analysis showed that the strength was limited by flaws, which were introduced by processing and handling. If these flaws can be avoided by optimisation of the process the strength should be equal to that of conventional processed ceramics.
