Abstract
Fig. 1 reveals the cross-sectional interfacial morphology of Fe-Cr-B cast steel immersed in molten aluminum for 8Â h. Periodic layered structures appeared at the interface between Cr-rich Fe2B and molten aluminum. Obviously, PLSs were formed during the reaction between Cr-rich Fe2B and molten aluminum, wherever the eutectic or primary Cr-rich Fe2B (as shown in Fig. 1a, b, c). Yet, there was no PLS formed at the interface between Mo-rich Fe2B and molten aluminum, which looked like that the Mo-rich Fe2B fractured at the effect of molten aluminum (as shown in Fig. 1d). It was indicated that the PLS formed only at the interface between Cr-rich Fe2B and molten aluminum.366
