Abstract
Exact postbuckling analysis of nanowires accounting for both nonlocality and surface energy effects under various conditions is of great interest. Using surface elasticity theory of Gurtin-Murdoch and the nonlocal continuum field theory of Eringen, the nonlocal surface energy-based governing equation is derived. The explicit statements of displacement field of the postbuckled nanowire as well as its corresponding postbuckling load are obtained.119
