Abstract
A compact glucose sensor is proposed by using a short length of photonic crystal fiber inserted in a Sagnac loop interferometer. Spectrum shift in response to the RI of glucose solution with a high average sensitivity of 22 130Â nm/RIU is achieved, equivalent to 0.76 mg/dL of glucose in water, which is lower than 70 mg/dL for efficient detection of hypoglycemia episodes. And the simplicity of the fiber structure makes the sensor production very cost effective. We aimed to provide a potential effective method for glucose detection in patients with hypoglycemia.
