Abstract
Recently, rechargeable Mg batteries have gained increasing attention. Research efforts have been mainly focused on the development of advanced Mg electrolytes with good reversibility and small overpotential for Mg deposition and stripping, and high anodic stability. This review summarizes electrochemical performance and coordination chemistry of a new class of Mg electrolytes based on inexpensive and convenient MgCl2 precursor (Lewis base) and a variety of Lewis acids.
