Abstract
In the present work, structural and microstructural changes with respect to the quenching rate and their correlation with mechanical behavior of melt-spun Ce75Al21Ga4 glassy alloys have been investigated. The alloys synthesized at higher wheel speed (~ 44, 36 and 29 m/s) leads to the formation of nano-amorphous domains in the glassy phase while the samples synthesized at relatively lower wheel speeds (~ 22 and 15 m/s) gives rise to the nano-crystalline phases having different microstructural features. Combined effects of microstructural features and structures results in higher hardness for the samples synthesized at slower quenching rates than those synthesized at faster quenching rates. The ribbons synthesized at 44 m/s favors the formation of shear bands and has the highest shear band density.296
