Abstract
This paper reviews the peculiarities of multicomponent metastable metallic alloys leading to the syntheses of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs), high entropy BMGs and pseudo high entropy BMGs which cannot be obtained for ordinary component alloys, in addition to the introduction of the features on structure, fundamental and engineering properties and applications for the first type BMGs. The recent extension of multicomponent alloy design has created a new type of metastable alloys such as high entropy BMGs, high entropy crystalline alloys and pseudo-high entropy BMGs with unique atomic configurations and fundamental and engineering properties resulting from multicomponent effect. Considering the diversity of alloy component and composition for multicomponent alloys, the new type of multicomponent metastable metallic alloys are promising for future highly functional engineering materials.
