Abstract
The magnetic properties, magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and magnetoresistance (MR) of Er-based metallic glasses (MGs) Er56-xTmxCo24Al20 (x = 8, 24) have been studied. The maximum magnetic entropy change (|ÎSm|) of Er32Tm24Co24Al20 can reach 17.0 J/kgK under a field change of 5 T. Negative magnetoresistance below the magnetic ordering temperature is observed in the samples, which has H2 dependence due to the suppression of spin-disorder scattering. Strikingly, it is found that magnetic entropy changes (-ÎSm) and magnetoresistance (MR) have a power law relationship around and below the magnetic ordering temperature: MRâ|-ÎSm|c. Thus, the MR can be a probe to explore the field-induced change of magnetic entropy in these MGs.
